Kia ora koutou BDS whānau, Week 7, Term 2, 2022
A very warm welcome to Mrs Rachael Ryan who started at BDS on Monday as the class teacher of Room 13. Mrs Ryan is also the Team Leader of Year 3 and our Kahui Ako Across School Leader.
Friday was such fun with our tamaiki coming to school in their very creative “B” outfits, and some of our staff also joined in (see the photo below), ka pai everyone. School photos are on Wednesday so please come dressed proudly in our school uniform.
We are very pleased to let you know that for the past two weeks we have had no notification that any of our tamariki have COVID. Hopefully this trend will continue.
A reminder that our school app is free to download and is a great asset to have on your phone as we not only send out our newsletters but also reminders e.g. non uniform day. If you have the app it can take you to our website where our newsletter and all other information can be translated. See below on how to upload this to your phone.
As we continue to develop our local curriculum we have another short survey. Please could you take a few minutes to complete the following survey as we will be looking at the responses for our next Teacher Only Day.
Short Survey Number 2
Thank you.
Ngā mihi nui,
Vicki Parkins Principal vickip@botanydowns.school.nz

BDS Learning and Fun
Year 2 Team – Great “B” costumes from our teachers on last week’s non-uniform day!
Year 1, Room 9 – Room 9 read the story Roy G Biv and really enjoyed learning about the order of the rainbow. We decided to test our new knowledge and painted our very own rainbows. Don’t they look great!

Netball Inter-School Day
On Tuesday the 31st May, two Year six netball teams and twoYyear 5 teams took to the courts in an inter-school fun day. The weather was amazing, the players were astounding and the games were awesome. The A team had five games with fantastic results. The B team had six great games with mixed results.
It was wonderful seeing the kids’ skills improve during the day. Their sportsmanship was great and they all had smiles on their faces even after a loss.
A great day was had by all and netball was the overall winner for the day.

Road Safety Week
At Botany Downs School we are celebrating Road Safety Week from 13-17 June 2022.
Look out for our “Road Safety Heroes” – road patrol students and parent supervisors, the walking school bus, safe drivers, children riding their bikes and scooters to school, Police and Fire and Ambulance – we are all Road Safety Heroes!
Our Travelwise Leaders will be out on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings reminding our community to keep us safe by driving slowly, parking safely, turning around away from the school and road patrol, and using the road patrol to cross the road.
They are also going to read a Road Safety Book to our Year 0-3 classes – we love our student leaders working with the younger children!
