Your feedback is greatly appreciated and will be used to support our future decision making in the design and delivery of this important curriculum learning area.

Lockdown Practice
Yesterday our school had a Lockdown practice. All classes were able to lock doors, turn off lights and lay safely on the floor. Lockdown practices are extremely important as it enables us to practice and review our emergency procedures should we need to use them in the future.
Well done to all teachers and students for a successful Lockdown practice!

BDS Learning and Fun
Year 2, Room 1 – Room 1 is so excited to be learning about the solar system. We have been researching the sun and planets inside our solar system. We are working as a class to create a display to share our new learning. It has been fun to find out interesting facts about space and share them with our classmates. We have used library books and the internet to help us. We are working hard to put our new learning into our own words. We are really proud of our display and we are enjoying becoming solar system experts!
Year 4, Room 26 – Room 26 designed their own manu tukutukus:
Year 6, Room 18 – Room 18 has been hard at work on two really cool projects. First, we have been designing and making mosaic tile displays for our Arts Evening installation. For this the students made simple geometric scale drawings in their books. We then used hammers, tile cutters and nippers, to break the tiles which were covered by cloth for safety. The students then transferred their tile designs to concrete board, which had tile glue spread on it. Finally we added a white grout to clean up the gaps. The last step is to put the tiles into frames and get them ready for mounting!
Our other cool project is our rocket project! As part of our statistics unit, students have been hard at work building a foam and rubber band rocket that they will test fire using different tensions and angles. The students are taking that data and graphing it to be used for a rocket battle later in the term. Testing is almost complete and we will move into building the geometry section of the programme, using their knowledge of strong shapes and building design to create a tower that can withstand carrying a load as well as taking hits from enemy rockets!
