Kia ora koutou BDS whānau, Week 1, Term 3, 2022
We all hope you have had an enjoyable holiday and are looking forward to Term 3. We are all very excited to be back at school and looking forward to a busy term of learning, sports, activities and trips; culminating in our Arts Trail evening at the end of Term 3. Welcome to our new families who are joining us this term.
During the holidays there have been many property developments:
- We are very happy to see the completion of our turf outside Rooms 16-19. This is such an asset to our school. Thank you once again to our wonderful PTA who helped fund raise for this.
- The removal of a photukawa tree by the flag pole, due to the roots lifting up our tarseal and going into drains, has enabled us to build planter boxes for our school vegetable gardens as our previous vegetable gardens are situated in our new build and cannot be used.
- There are three updates from the Ministry of Education as they develop our BDS Roll Growth Master Plan with Astley Construction. Firstly, they have informed us they have needed to move Rooms 20-23 closer to the edge of the field than expected due to the positioning of our storm water drains. Secondly, their heavy vehicles have made our cobbles in the driveway come loose and we now have a temporary driveway until this is tarsealed in the future. Finally, the MoE has informed us that they are well behind with their schedule of the moving and opening of Rooms 20-23 and also the start of our new build.
- We have also been informed Kadina gate will remain closed for now but we will let you know as soon as this is able to be opened. Also for safety of our tamariki the School Board has closed the bus bay.
Thank you in advance for your continued patience and understanding.
Thank you too to those parents who let us know when their child is going to be away. This saves Mrs Bishop ringing each family that has not contacted the school. We also appreciate the whānau who come on site wearing masks and we do have spare masks at the office should you need one.

Lunchtime Sport and Cultural Activities for Term 3
Sports this term: This term there are a large number of sports that are on. Please make sure your child attends the practices and keeps an eye on the notices for trainings as the weather can often impact during this term.
It would be beneficial for your child to have a change of clothes (PE gear) including socks and sports shoes as they may be training when it is wet outside.
For any questions about the sports or their events, please contact the teacher who is running that sport:

Congratulations to…
Troy Viljoen competed in the Mini Nationals last weekend in Tokoroa. He qualified in 3rd position and placed in the top three in his five races. He was consistent over the weekend with no falls and improved his lap times by 20 seconds. The podium positions were down to the last race and he managed to get a 3rd overall for the weekend, missing out by 1 point for 2nd over all.
Well done to Troy for his achievement!
