Newsletter – Week 10, Term 2, 2022

Kia ora koutou BDS whānau,                                                                Week 10, Term 2, 2022

Term 2 has been such a successful term.  Our calendar has been full and our tamariki have been fully engaged in their learning and happily playing with their friends.  Our final week is also busy and very exciting.

This week is Book Week and our Librarian, Vanessa Hatley-Owen, and Sharmila Raj our Inqjuiry Leader, have organised many interesting events and activities. We encourage you to visit the school to purchase books and stationery from our Scholastic Book Fair. The days and times are mentioned below.  We are looking forward to the creative book character costumes that our tamariki proudly showcase in our Book Week Parade on Friday at 11 am on our netball courts if it is fine. Whānau are welcome to attend.

Reports go home on Tuesday followed by parent interviews on Wednesday and Thursday.  Please do book a conference with your teacher as it is so important to share information and make connections.

A HUGE thank you to our PTA for fundraising for our wonderful new Tiger Turf area under the junior canopy. This space has been totally transformed!

Wishing you all a relaxing, happy time with your whānau in the school holidays.

 Ngā mihi nui,
Vicki Parkins Principal vickip@botanydowns.school.nz

HPPS Hockey Field Day

On Tuesday 28th June our joint Year 5 and 6 hockey team went to the HPPA hockey field day held at Lloyd Elsmore. We were very lucky with the weather and the quality of hockey played was fantastic. We had four tough games and came away with a win in two of them.

All of the kids’ were enthusiastic, tried their absolute best and continued to smile even when the results didn’t go their way.

It was an awesome day and great to see so many eager kids giving hockey a go!

ESOL: At the start of the term, we made vanilla ice cream.  It was delicious but we said, “Why can’t we make our own flavours?” So we went to New World to find new flavours.  My buddy and I decided to make chocolate and caramel ice cream.  Today we made it and it was bliss! By Lukas.
